about luca

Luca Curcio is an Italian bass player and composer based in Copenhagen since 2015. Obsessed by jazz, folk, drum ‘n bass, reggae and brazilian music, he grew up as a multi-faced, passionate and eclectic performer. His omnivorous curiosity led him to explore and deepen many different aspects and declinations of the the bass and his influences range from Mingus and Haden, to the Gnawa music of Morocco, passing by Cachao Lopez and Jordi Savall. Luca graduated in Jazz Bass from the conservatory of Torino (Italy) and shortly after he moved to Denmark to attend a master in Music Performance at the Rhythmic Music Conservatory of Copenhagen, where he lives ever since.

During his career Luca has been engaged with many international projects centered around the world of Jazz and improvised music, being active both as sideman and as a composer/band leader. He toured extensively in Europe, Russia and North Africa, playing amongst the others with : Jon Balke, Andy Sheppard, Gavino Murgia, Gianluca Petrella, Rolf Kuhn and many more.
